I reckoned that the correct quote from The Crow was ‘Mother is the name for God on the lips of a child’.
I was wrong, the correct quote is in fact:
‘Mother is the name for God on the lips and hearts of all children’
Also, Cornish Bloke was correct it is derived from the William Makepeace Thackeray quote:
‘Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children.’
I clearly need to become more obsessive about The Crow… or not…
(In anycase my favourite quote is still ‘It can’t rain all the time…’ which, if you know me, might seem an odd quote for me to like)
Dammit, need to watch that film again…
*bows*
I used to be able to quote that film verbatim. I blame Murkyway 😉
I like the pretty lights.
James O’Barr’s original GN draws from a myriad goth songs but also from a number of poets across the past three centuries. It’s only fitting that the film do the same.
Iris wrote a transcript of the entire film as the only one out at the time was wrong and based off an earlier version of it. If you look for transcripts of it now I still think the only one out there is hers.
She knows it off by heart.
Oh actually she took it down, so it probably isn’t out there anymore, did find one proper transcript though.
I did indeed transcribe the whole thing in my teenage years and then later take the site down, but this : http://crowsattic.tripod.com/CrowTranscript.txt
although uncredited, is in fact the transcript what I wrote.
Wow. This is dedication.
