I think one of the most annoying and frustrating things that people have said to me since I started sharing my chronic fatigue symptoms was about yoga. The comment that they didn’t understand why I found yoga poses to be cardio exercises. Now, yoga can be cardio, but generally they’d be talking about my finding gentle stretches or asanas getting my heart pumping.
Mostly it leaves me wanting to snap, well of course it’s cardio for me, I’m not bloody well it doesn’t take much to get my heart pounding.
I’m back from the utter basics now, only visualising positions. Now I’m stretching again and after that an actual sun salute and some genuine meditations. They’re so close I can almost taste them. I don’t dare think beyond that but my old DVDs and books are mocking me out of the corner of my eye. But this is about breathing in the moment and not getting caught out by my constant need to goal-set.
