Trump Coming for Architecture

Brutalist architecture is out and Greco-Roman is in. More than anything else that has me shivering, it’s just so many echoes of the Nazi regime. Brutalism has always been ridiculously hard to like, but the theory behind it is socialist and egalitarian. It’s about not hiding the nuts and bolts of construction, showing all the pieces to everyone.

Greco-Roman, which has all the maths I like with the golden section et al is all about hiding and shaping vision. It’s about producing an effect and its preference is about weighting effect over function.

I hate it.

I hate these aesthetics. I hate what they mean.
